The Ring Net Heritage Trust was established in 2014, in order to protect the memory of ring net fishing. For several years we had been noticing a growing and very passionate interest in herring fishing in Scotland, and wanted to play our part in the celebration and conservation of such an important part of Scotland’s past.
We now have two vessels in our care; Shemaron, the ex-ring net fishing boat, and the Wee Dooker, an example of a Loch Fyne Skiff. In order to look after these beautiful boats and provide the public with opportunities to learn from them and be part of their history, we rely on charitable funding and the support of the community.
We would like to invite you to become a Friend of Ring Net Heritage Trust. As a Friend, you will become a lifetime member of the trust, receive regular updates on the research and conservation of our vessels, and be the first to hear about opportunities for adventures onboard the boats. You will also be helping to protect the history of ring net fishing in Scotland.
If this is something that will interest you, please donate £15 to us by cheque (made payable to the Ring Net Heritage Trust) or cash. If you are a UK taxpayer, we would be grateful if you could fill out the Gift Aid form (available to download on the right-hand side of your screen, or on request by post), which will allow us to increase the value of your donation by 25% at no extra cost you.
Very best wishes,
Fiona Malkin and Wendy Malkin

Arts and Heritage
The Ring Net trust would like to hear stories and collect information from the ring net era. We would like to hear from you if you have something you feel maybe relevant. We would also love to hear from you if you are an artist, writer, poet or film maker who has found inspiration from the sea or fishing particularly with the ring net.
Get involved on a practical level. Volunteer your skills and a little time to help with the many tasks required to keep Shemaron and Wee Dooker in the water.
