Shemaron arriving in Irvine April 2016 Courtesy Christopher Woodland.

We are approaching the end of our first year with the Ring Net Heritage Trust and it seems like an appropriate time to say a massive thank you to everyone who has made a donation and also to all those who have bought our t shirts and books!

Thanks to the generosity of everyone concerned and the successful application of grants, since it’s foundation one year ago, the Ring Net Heritage Trust has carried out the following repairs to the ex-ring net boat Shemaron.

Hull survey

Lift out and storage at Ardrossan

Extensive re-caulking

Replacement of stem

Replacement of some planks

Re fastening of some hull planks

Replacement stem and new cathead

The fitting of new belting/coping irons around the hull

Replacement of internal bulkhead

Toilet removed to it’s original position – aft of the engine

Galley in fo’c’sle reinstated

Deck wash installed

New depth sounder installed.

There is still much to do , work needs to be carried out on the deck to stop rainwater leaking into the hull and causing damage to the structure of the boat. This work will involve major rebuilding of the top planks and gunnels, we intend doing this next winter and in the mean time are looking forward to a busy year afloat.
